LA4440 amplifier circuit in Bridge mode

When LA4440 amplifier circuit is used in Bridge mode, it can give output power up to 19 Watt. This amplifier is capable to run easily up to 12 inch woofers.

The main reasons for using LA4440 is,

• Small pop noise at the time of power supply ON/OFF and good starting balance.
• Good ripple rejection : 46dB typical.
• Built-in protectors.
• Thermal protector.
• Over voltage and surge voltage protector.
• Pin-to-pin short protector.

A readymade 2 channel (2 I.C) LA4440 audio amplifier is shown below.

You can modify most readymade amplifier kit to LA4440 bridge amplifier circuit by simply cutting some PCB tracks and adding some jumpers, but that may vary board to board.

The image clearly shows, that a ripple rejection B.E choke transformer is added in series to the +ve supply.

This is required in every audio amplifiers as any ripple in DC can cause unwanted noise. The shown circuit has a pre-amplifier too, but that’s not our topic, pre-amplifiers will be discussed in other articles.

  LA 4440. What the cost now ?, 10 years back i brought it in the range 40-50, circuit is simple, but output not much good

  October 25th, 2010 at 10:07 pmNow it costs about 50, Nowadays 6283 audio amplifiers are spread allover, but they don’t have that much voltage bearing strength, nor the protection features. For a 8? mid-range and Woofer driving, I’d highly recommend it.

  March 24th, 2011 at 5:56 pm@sunny, 12? woofer is 16watt, 8? mid is 8watt. So, you need 24Watts rms for 100% volume. You should use TDA2030A based amplifier. That has 35Watt power output capability.

  1. The kit itself
  2. Volume control Pot, (bass control pot optional)
  3. A cabinet
  4. A transformer and Bridge rectifier for 12Volt suply
  5. Wires, etc…..

  500Watt RMS output can easily destroy a concrete house. For 500Watt RMS output you need an 10 feet diameter speaker. If you are going to be a terrorist by destroying buildings by 500Watt RMS output, then I’ll not help you anyways.
  And if you are referring to 500Watt PMPO, then for your kind information, this 4440 amplifier can easily drive 2500Watt PMPO speaker system.

  Well, 500Watt RMS output can’t be derived from 4440. It can be achieved with MOSFET, driver based amplifiers only.

  May 23rd, 2011 at 12:38 pmActually, Ic 4558 is a dual op-amp I.C. I have discussed a circuit for op-amp based bass treble controller previously based on LM741 IC, which is a single op-amp IC. (https://www.circuitsdiy.com/low-cost-effective-bass-treble-circuit-using-op-amp-741). If you can understand the logic used there, you can do it with IC 4558 yourself. And if you cant do that, I’ll help you.

  I made a 4440 STEREO amplifier.Its right output channel is working properly but a buzzing sound is coming from its left output whether some input signal is connected or not. I am sure that the buzzing sound is different from that of grounding problems.PLEASE tell me the possible defect whether it is some capacitor or else?????
